If every member of your household pays for their own individual subscriptions, you are almost certainly overpaying. Family plans exist for most major services, and the savings are substantial. A household of four that switches from individual plans to family plans across music, video, and cloud storage can save $600 to $900 per year without losing access to anything.
This guide covers every major family plan available in 2026, the real per-person cost when you split it, and practical advice for dividing bills fairly.
Spotify Family supports up to 6 accounts, each with their own personalized recommendations, playlists, and listening history. Everyone gets full Spotify Premium features: no ads, offline downloads, and on-demand playback. Split across 6 people, the per-person cost drops to $2.83/month compared to $12.99/month for an individual Premium plan. That is a savings of $10.16 per person per month, or $121.92 per person per year. For a full household of 6, the combined annual savings versus 6 individual plans is $731.52/year.
YouTube Premium Family covers up to 5 members plus the plan manager, for 6 total. Each person gets ad-free YouTube, YouTube Music Premium, background play, and offline downloads. Split 6 ways, it costs $3.83/month per person compared to $13.99/month individually. Annual savings for a household of 6: $731.52/year. YouTube Premium Family is particularly strong value because it bundles both video and music streaming.
Apple Music Family supports up to 6 members through Family Sharing. Each person gets their own library, recommendations, and full access to the Apple Music catalog. Per-person cost: $2.83/month versus $10.99 individually. Annual savings for 6 people: $588.96/year.
Netflix Standard supports 2 simultaneous streams and allows the account holder to add one extra member for an additional $7.99/month. Netflix Premium at $24.99/month supports 4 simultaneous streams and 2 extra member slots. For a household sharing one roof, the Standard or Premium plan covers everyone without needing extra member add-ons. Four people sharing Netflix Premium pay $6.25/month each versus $17.99 for individual Standard plans. Annual household savings: $623.52/year.
Important note: Netflix requires all members of a shared account to live at the same household address. They verify this through IP address and device location checks. Adding members outside your household requires the paid extra member add-on.
Disney+ allows up to 4 simultaneous streams on a single account and supports 7 user profiles. There is no separate family plan tier, but a household of 4 sharing one account pays just $2.50/month each. Disney+ also offers a bundle with Hulu and ESPN+ starting at $15.99/month (with ads), which split 4 ways comes to $4.00/month per person for three services.
Max supports 2 simultaneous streams on the ad-free plan or 4 streams on the Ultimate plan at $20.99/month. Four people sharing Ultimate pay $5.25/month each versus $16.99 individually. Annual savings per person: $140.88.
Apple One Family bundles Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, and iCloud+ 200 GB for up to 6 family members. If your household uses Apple devices, this is one of the best deals in subscriptions. Individually, these four services would cost $36.96/month. The bundle saves $14.01/month before even factoring in the family split. Per person for 6 members: $3.83/month for four services.
Google One plans can be shared with up to 5 additional family members through Google Family. The 100 GB plan at $2.99/month or 2 TB plan at $9.99/month covers the entire household. Each member gets their own private storage space within the shared pool. Split 6 ways, the 2 TB plan costs $1.67/month per person for generous cloud storage.
The most common source of friction in shared subscriptions is billing. Here are three approaches that work.
1. Equal split, one person pays. The simplest method. One person pays the full amount and everyone else sends their share monthly. Use a payment app like Venmo, Zelle, or Cash App to automate recurring payments. The downside: if someone forgets to pay, the account holder absorbs the cost.
2. Rotate who pays each month. In a group of 4, each person pays the full bill for 3 months per year. This eliminates the hassle of monthly money transfers. It works best when everyone in the group is reliable and committed.
3. Trade services instead of splitting each one. Person A pays for Spotify Family and adds everyone. Person B pays for Netflix and shares the login. Person C covers YouTube Premium Family. Each person pays one full bill but gets access to three services. This approach is simple, eliminates per-service payment tracking, and balances out as long as the total costs are roughly equal.
Not all services have the same rules. Here is a quick breakdown of sharing policies in 2026.
Sharing allowed (same household): Netflix (same address required), Disney+, Max, Hulu, Spotify Family, YouTube Premium Family, Apple Music Family, Apple One, Amazon Prime Household (2 adults + kids), Google One Family.
Sharing with restrictions: Netflix extra member add-on ($7.99/month per person outside your household), Spotify Family (all members should reside at the same address), Paramount+ (2-3 streams depending on plan).
No family plan available: Many niche services like Calm, Headspace (individual only at premium tier), and several fitness apps do not offer family pricing. For these, you either pay individually or find a free alternative.
Sharing a single individual account password with friends or family members who do not live with you is against the terms of service for virtually every streaming platform. In 2023, Netflix began actively enforcing household restrictions, and other services have followed. The risks include account suspension, forced password resets, and loss of watch history and personalization data.
The better approach is to use official family plans, which are designed for sharing and keep everyone's data separate. The per-person cost on a family plan is so low that the savings from informal password sharing are minimal compared to the risk of losing your account.
Consider a household of 4 people who each individually subscribe to Spotify ($12.99), Netflix ($17.99), and YouTube Premium ($13.99). That is $44.97 per person per month, or $179.88 for the household.
Switching to family plans: Spotify Family ($16.99) + Netflix Premium ($24.99) + YouTube Premium Family ($22.99) = $64.97/month for the entire household. Per person: $16.24/month.
Monthly savings: $114.91. Annual savings: $1,378.92. That is real money recovered simply by consolidating to family plans. Use a subscription tracker to identify which services your household members are duplicating, then consolidate to family plans wherever possible.
